Psychotherapy

Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It’s too high!
COME TO THE EDGE!
So they came
And he pushed
And they flew.

Individual Psychotherapy – Individual psychotherapy is the great gift of finding the safety in relationship that allows the exploration of our most personal and tender selves, our emotions, traumas, needs, and hopes. We sometimes enter this process in search of an elusive sense of peace; sometimes in the turmoil of personal or relationship crisis, or the pain of unrelenting depression or anxiety. Because this healing journey requires the exploration of feelings and behaviors that can evoke fear, guilt, or shame, we go most easily in the safety of trusted companionship.

Couples Therapy – Couples therapy sets aside time to set goals, resolve conflicts, improve communication, understand resentments and infidelities, learn to tolerate differences, to define expectations and to build a strong and working partnership.

Sessions
Sessions are generally 50 minutes long, but I also offer 70- and 100-minute sessions if we decide that would be helpful. Typically we will meet weekly, although you may choose to come more or less often.

Using Insurance
PPO and POS plans will often reimburse for my services; others (HMOs) require you to choose someone on their contracted provider list. You may want to check with your carrier to see if your plan will cover individual psychotherapy with licensed marriage and family therapists on an “out of network” basis.

I request payment at each session, but I am happy to prepare a monthly statement (which will require me to provide a diagnosis code) for you to submit to your insurance company. I do not belong to any managed care provider panels, because basic decisions about your care, such as the number of sessions, are decided by health plan employees and, as a provider, I may be required to discuss your confidential information with insurance workers for "authorization" to see you. By not contracting with health plans, I can preserve your confidentiality as fully as the law allows. Billing is straightforward and included as part of the therapy relationship. Treatment decisions are made by you and I alone.

“I realized there is something I do before I begin a session. I let myself know that I am enough. There is no pain that this person can share with me that I cannot understand because I too am a human being. There is no loneliness, no doubt, no darkness that I do not also share. She does not need to be ashamed or alone with whatever she carries. This is what will allow her to discover her truth and begin to heal. I can accompany her and be with her as she remembers who she is. I am enough because I too am a human being.”
